I never really knew what people were talking about when it came to having a migraine until I had one.

If you have not had a migraine before; then you are more than likely wondering if it is just a REALLY bad headache. Nope.

Migraines have a whole realm of their own.

A migraine can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on just one side of the head. It’s often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound.

Migraine attacks can cause significant pain for hours to days and can be so severe that the pain is disabling.

Warning symptoms known as aura may occur before or with the headache. These can include flashes of light, blind spots, or tingling on one side of the face or in your arm or leg.

Lavender

Lavender essential oil is “an anxiolytic drug, a mood stabilizer, a sedative, spasmolytic, antihypertensive, antimicrobial, analgesic agent as well as a wound healing accelerator.” Using it as a treatment for migraine headaches is definitely the way to go. One study found that 92 out of 129 migraine sufferers responded to inhaled lavender oil (from a diffuser). That’s nearly 75% of them!

Ice ice baby

Putting Ice on the back of your neck or the top of your head can greatly reduce the pain of a migraine. Depending on the type of migraine; laying on the floor flat may help.

Feverfew

The herb feverfew has had a long history of use in traditional and folk medicine. Recently it has become a popular prophylactic treatment for migraine headaches and its extracts have been claimed to relieve menstrual pain, asthma, dermatitis, and arthritis. Traditionally, the herb has been used as an antipyretic (fever reducer), from which its common name is derived.

Coffee is also a time-trusted migraine remedy but caffeine is an unstable option for relief. Studies show that caffeine can trigger AND relieve a migraine.

Riboflavin.

A 2004 study, which didn’t compare Riboflavin to a dummy placebo pill or any other treatment, found that patients who took 400 mg of Riboflavin daily experienced significantly fewer headaches and used fewer migraine pain killers.

Migraines are real but nature offers remedies to relieve the misery.
