Some of us are blessed with hair that seems to never thin. Others, well, that’s a different story. Hair thinning can be the result of many things: Medication, hormones, genetics, thyroid dysfunction, to name a few. While thinning hair can seem like a terrible thing – and it is – it can be helped, somewhat. While expensive shampoos ans their supplements claim to help regrow hair, there are many natural remedies that you can use to help stimulate the scalp, slow down hair loss, and even help prevent it. Those with thick hair can take note, as a good scalp cleansing can help everyone’s scalp health. Below are the best natural remedies for thinning hair.

Eggs aren’t exactly great for your scalp, but for brittle, breaking hair that has you feeling like your hair is thinner, this is you new best friend. Just whip together a few eggs (depending on the length and thickness of your hair) and apply it to wet hair. Cover it with a shower cap or plastic wrap (careful, it’s sticky!) and let hang out for 30 minutes. Rinse it out with warm – not hot – water, and then shampoo as usual. Doing this once a week can help strengthen brittle hair.

Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds are great for helping stop hair loss. You can buy these in most grocery stores in the herb & spice aisle, and is always available to help if you cannot find these locally. Simply soak 2-3 tablespoons in water for 8-10 hours. Drain, and grind the seeds into a fine paste. If it is too thick, you can apply a few teaspoons of milk to the mix. Apply to your scalp (parting the hair and smoothing it through is the best method I have found) and let it hang out for 30 minutes. Rinse your hair with warm water, making sure to scrub your scalp clean. Doing this weekly can help stimulate your scalp, as well as cleaning out build up from products.

Castor Oil

Don’t be scared! Castor Oil can actually help your hair appear thicker at the scalp – as well as cleans out build up which can keep hair from growing. Heat equal parts of cold-pressed Castor Oil and coconut oil and apply to your scalp. Massage into your scalp, and the roots of your hair. Comb and style your hair as usual. The high viscosity of Castor Oil helps make your hair higher, and the oil helps stimulate the scalp to promote hair growth. It also helps keep away excess build up, and when you eventually wash your hair it can help get rid of build up.
