Dandruff can get caused by an oily scalp and skin, sweating, excessive use of shampoo, fatigue and mental stress, hereditary factors, unhygienic atmosphere, hormonal imbalances, and other factors. The condition causes white flakes to form on the scalp. Extreme dandruff can lead to spreading of pus, redness, and infection.
Is it possible to reduce or control dandruff with yoga? Some believe that practicing yoga can be useful for hair and nourish it. As mentioned above, many reasons could cause dandruff, and you cannot control all of them. Below are two poses that are quick and efficient ways to treat the condition.
– Chakrasana (Lying-down Body twist):
Doing this pose will slow down dandruff and supply the scalp with more oxygen.
– Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-facing Dog pose):
Doing this pose reduces dandruff and improves the condition of the scalp by allowing more blood to circulate to the head.
In addition to yoga, there are other methods such as Ayurveda which could help treat dandruff. One Ayurvedic practice is massaging the head with Aloe Vera or sesame seed oil. Eating less oily foods and medication can also help with dandruff.
Some other natural remedies for dandruff include the following:
Lemon juice with Coconut Oil – Mix five parts coconut oil and one part lemon juice. Gently, apply to your scalp and allow the mixture to sit for 30 minutes. Then, wash your hair with a mild shampoo.
Yogurt – Apply plain yogurt to your scalp and let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it out with an herbal shampoo. Do this twice a week.
Eggs – The yolks of eggs are an excellent source of biotin, which effectively treats dandruff. After mixing yolks in a bowl, apply it to your scalp. Put a plastic bag over your hair and let it sit for an hour. Then, wash your hair with lemon water to get rid of any odor.
Apple cider vinegar – As an after-treatment to washing your hair, mix eight to 10 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with water and rinse massage your hair.
